Go to flickr and search for Helsinki and ggj to see photos of the weekend. More coming in all the time.
Also keep eyes peeled for video footage – of course we are going to have a super-amazing-professional documentary from the Aalto University Media Factory guys, but the ‘family-holiday’ style amateur footage is also pretty cool…Now ready to watch: Helsinki Game Jam night 1, video evidence! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_pai6_SRGw
Finnish Game Jam was a success with almost a hundred jammers altogether! A lot of cool new games were made during the weekend, check them out under the “Games” tab. All GGJ games can be found on http://www.globalgamejam.org/games. A game jam is not a competition by nature, but strives for innovation, experimentation and collaboration, and of course having fun and meeting new people! However, some not-so-serious competition can motivate and boost the effort. To reward the 48 hours of hard, fast-paced toiling three awards were handed out to:
Best Game: Play Dead 2: The Growling of the Dead
Best Silverlight Game: Lyre
Jammer’s Favorite: Grow Up!
Other finalist in the Best Game category were:
Fast Confusion (Helsinki)
Grow up! (Tampere)
I Deceive You (Kajaani)
Lost Flame (Kajaani)
Lyre Inspyre (Helsinki)
The Great Adventures of Mr. KamiNo Buresuretto (Kajaani)
Ultimate Showdown (Helsinki)
Congratulations to the winners, but also to each and every participant! You were all great!
The next Global Game Jam will be on January 28-30, 2011, so mark your calendars! We hope to be back even bigger and better! Until then, keep the jamming on!
